My gun broke on Wednesday before the tournament. I did get much sleep between then and Saturday morning, I spent every moment I could: trying to fix it. So I went to the tournament without a marker. I borrowed and ION the first round and it did not shoot.  My teammates Randall and Allen managed to win that round with me pretending to snap shoot. The second round I had a Shocker that did not shoot. The third game I was back out with the ION it shot for about 15 seconds of the game.

Finally the forth round I was handed another Shocker capable of launching paintballs. We then proceeded to win our next 5 matches. One of which I actually jumped in the snake to take out an opposing player from Rush and did quite well.

We had played four teams twice. The two teams we lost to while I did not have a marker we had to play again best out of three. We did not manage to pull through those two games. We tied Rush of those two teams to head into the finals, but since they beat us we did not get to advance.

Rush went on to take second place, losing to Liquid Metal.  Two out of the three members of Liquid Metal were former members of our team. One of which was Bob Brode whom play with Randall and I in the last tournament. Needless to say there was some drama, but I had a great time.

June 7th, 2010 At Intense Paintball

TPA Paintball was closed due to high wind so I went to Intense Paintball http://www.intensepaintball.net/ The young guys play there thought so highly of my gear they were calling me Paintball Jesus...lol!  There was one other guy with a rail they were calling him Little Paintball Jesus.

My best game I let some kid use my marker and grabbed his rental. I charged down the field with it and took out 4 people.  Proving my marker wasn't the key to my game.  It was fun but people did not even want to play with me on the field.

My First Airball Tournament at TPA 15-May-2010

Team Excalibur's 3 Man Team takes 4th out of 19 at TPA's openning tournament.

I Matthew Werstler, Randal Clapper, and Robert Brode made it to the finals and pulled out forth place.  Not only was it my first tournament but it was Randal's as well.  Both of us were greatful to have a veteran player Bob to help lead us to placing 4th.  All three of us had a great time, and Randal and I are looking forward to the next TPA tournament.

Who is that masked man...
I hate people how talk crap and cheat every game

This is what I get for saying I'm not going to play paintball nice in my last post

welt caused by someone turning up the volicity too high on there gun

Played paintball today with a guy and his family that talked a lot of crap off the field (most of which was true).  I will give him that he was pretty good, but him or someone in his family cheated every game that he won.

My welt picture on the right was on the last game were he cranked his velocity way up. The large black and blue one is from all the way all the way across the field (yes it's bull....). The others were from other people up close. His team out numbered us 5 to 4, and had an experienced family of players vs me and four younger inexperience player. After we beat them the first game, he cranked his gun way up. They were good enough, and out numbered us there was no need to cheat.

Just another Douchebag

Paintball March 27 and 28

I played woodsball with a group that happened to be at Rapid Fire Paintball Park on Saturday March 27.  Half way through the day I realized the gentleman running the group was one of my teachers from R. G. Drage Tod Krino (which was very cool).  I had fun but realize I'm not very good at woodsball...

On Saturday I showed up at Intense fairly late.  There was only 3 teenagers and 4 early teen/children there.  First game I think I might have shot all four people on the other team; at least 3.  The four kids left after that play.  Played a couple quick 2v2 with the teens leaving me 1 in 1.  I let them have a play rounds without me, before beating 2 of them in 2 VS me.  They proceeded to waste the rest of their paint shooting at bunkers and left.  If I would have known everyone was going to scare so easy I would have called out on bounces and gun hits.

My friend Solider4Faith on twitter suggested I should be nicer:

I was fairly nice a week before when I played with his group.  And I was really nice another week before that.  I landed a single hit on a guy, he felt it grabbed it with his hand and looked at the paint.  So I figured cool he is out, so started to walk by him.  He waited until I was about 4 feet away and shot me numerous times.  I never had the chance to repay the favor.

The week before that I had an angle of two woman so I yelled surrender.  After they both put their hands up one of them shot me in the throat.

So I decided I am not going to be a jerk, but I sick of losing and getting shot being nice.

  • I am not surrendering people if they are in fair shooting range.
  • I will shot people two or three times if they don't call out.
  • I will no longer be overly careful to only shot people once because half the time I get a curve and miss.
  • If a hit is not visible to a person I may just shot them twice to insure they call it.
  • Finally anyone who bonus balls that crap out of me or over shots the crap out of me can expect me to get even if the opportunity presents itself.

However after I crush everyone on the other team once: I will start calling myself out on bounces and even gun hits to even things out.  Sometimes I just let kids win, because I get a kick out of how excited they get.

I am doing everything I said blogged about to improve my game.

Matthew Werstler's Paintball Addiction
Paintball returns to Matthew Werstler's (AKA: Davolous) life. Growing up I had three major hobbies games, go karts, and paintball. In 2010 Paintball is back in a hard core way. After play paintball as much as possible from the late 80s through 1995 I finally made a paintball team called Hazardous Waste (which was sponsor by Black Hawk at the time). I was so proud, but I manage to lose my place on the team over a women. Looking back I still regret this despite how good my intensions were.

Over the past 15 years the sport of paintball has changed drastically. Today top players are in great physical shape, and really put themselves through a beating out there on the field. People don’t just run to bunkers anymore, they run and slide into them. The game seems to be much more action packed to me now than ever before (see the you tube video).

Anyone who know me: can imagine how I am going to reenter a long lost hobby “That’s right! I jumping in with both feet.” Of course I am not looking to be an average recreational paintball player: I am thinking “Team Member - Tournament Playing Paintball Psycho!!!”

But I have a few problems:
  1. All my equipment from 1995 is either broken or completely outdated.
  2. I’m overweight and out of shape.
  3. I was not the best paintball player then, and I am no winning tournament player now.

Fear not in Davolous’s standard fashion I not only have goals, but plans on how to meet them head on…

All my equipment from 1995 is either broken or completely outdated. Well luckily I just switched jobs, hopefully I can keep my new job long enough to recover from my massive paintball expenditure. As of February 15th of 2010 I own a Dangerous Power Rev-I Ninja 4500 PSI High Pressure Air Tank, a new set of lens for my 5 year JT Goggles, an Empire Padded Grind Paintball Shirt, Empire Paintball Grind Jersey, and Empire Grind Paintball Pants. Plus I’ve already ordered a Pinokio Hopper, Empire Paintball Slide Shorts, Empire Knee and Shin Pads, Empire Elbow Pads, and JT Flex 8 Full Head Projection Googles. In other words soon I will be totally geared up, and I am taking safety very seriously with a full suit of Empire safety gear.

I’m overweight and out of shape. Well I been working on the weight problem for a long time now, and as of today I am 45 LBS lighter then two years ago. I started a web site http://www.fat-camp.org to help keep me on track, and with the desire to play competitive paintball I’m kicking it in high gear. I started working my way into a work out routine, and I lost 5 pounds over the last week. I wasn’t going to buy any new work out equiptment but my wife really wanted a treadmill, and her timing could not have been better. So now I have a place to work out upstair as well as down stairs.

I was not the best playing then, and I am no winning tournament player now. Well there are definitely techniques in today’s paintball, and most of them can be learned. So while it is still cold out I am trying to play paintball at least once or twice a week at the local indoor paintball field, Intense Paintball. Plus I setup a reball range in my basement, and I making up some drills to improve my game. I have already noticed a difference in my ability on the field.

Now the question is how far do I really intend to go with all of this. To be honest with myself I have no real plans to play professional paintball competitively, but that being said I do want to be on a competitive local team. Which means: I will probably get smeared by some professional team someday.
Matthew T. Werstler’s goals for Paintball in 2010:
  1. By the end of this summer I would like to have a pretty good handle on my problems listed above.
  2. I intend to play quite a bit of paintball this year.
  3. I would like to find a team or two to practice with. I am not going to push the envelope too far. Finding a team or two that would let me walk on as an extra body during their practice sessions would be enough to make me happy. I am not worried about being on a team unless I find the right one. Although I might make a good alternate this year.
Matt's Hopes of Being on a Paintball Team Again

Team Excalibur seems to have all of these bases covered.

(Below was written before I found a team.)

What Davolous really wants in a team (I’ll practice and play with anyone for now but in time I would like to find or create a team I can really be a part of)?

  1. At least half the people on the team need to be as serious about paintball as I am.
  2. No bad sports or complete A-Holes.
  3. A local team would be great.
  4. I would prefer at least half of the members are old enough to legally go out for beers after practice. I don’t mind some younger players, but I want I team I fit in with not one to chaperone. I’m cool with father-son duos and such, but my captain has to be an adult.
  5. The team has to have people who can afford to play.

I really don’t care about sponsors our notoriety right now.

What can I offer a team right now?
  1. I can afford to play and practice. That is pretty important these days.
  2. Even if I am not great now I will better by the end of this season.
  3. I have some web skills that could help promote the team.
  4. I take my hobbies seriously, but I try to be a good sport. Plus I’m pretty easy to get along with.
